Gramercy is the neighborhood that surrounds Gramercy Park, one of two famous private parks in Manhattan (Sunnyside Gardens in Queens is the other). Residents who pay an annual fee are provided with keys and access to the park, however it does open once a year to the public on Christmas Eve. The area surrounding the park between E. 19th Street, Third Avenue and Irving is fondly called “Block Beautiful” because of the diverse and beautiful architecture in the surrounding buildings.

The Gramercy neighborhood is generally regarded as a fairly quiet and safe area of the city, with great restaurants and bars available to explore. Real estate options include a variety of townhouses in close proximity to the park, some of which date back to the 19th century. Interesting to note, due to a different type of bedrock that lies beneath this neighborhood, buildings in Gramercy are never higher than 20 stories.
